A Study on the Pollutants from Tanchon Tributary Discharged in to the Tanchon and on the Stream Self-purification

Abstract
During the months of June to September, 1974, the author investigated the level of pollution and the quantity of pollutants discharged in to the tributary of Tanchon and the stream serf-purification.
The results were summarized as follows:
1. The daily discharged of pollutants from Daewonchon was determined to be as follow:
BOD 730kg(64.9 mg/l), COD 2,600kg(185.2 mg/l), SS 1,120kg(303.7 mg/l), ABS 12.80kg(1.08mg/l).
2. The daily discharged of pollutants from Dandaechon was determined to be as follow:
BOD 830kg(58.8mg/l), COD 1,090 kg(80.4mg/l), SS 2,290kg(173.7 mg/l), ABS 36.0 kg(2.63mg/l).
3. The daily discharged of pollutants from Dokjungchon was determined to be as follow:
BOD 1,650kg(142.3 mg/l), COD 2,350 kg(202.2mg/l), SS 3,080kg(275.0 mg/l), ABS 32.8kg(2.86mg/l).
4. The daily discharged of pollutants from Sungnam city was determined to be as follow:
BOD 3,100kg, COD 5,400kg, SS 6,400kg, ABS 82.83 kg.
5. The average deoxygenating constant (k) was 0.27, ultimate BOD 59.9 mg/l, average reaeratlon constant (k©ü) 1.08 and finally the self-purification constant (f) 4.02 in Tanchon.
6. The Streeter-Phelps oxygen sag curve was drawn. It showed that the critical point of oxygen deficit would occur after 19 times of flow from Dokjungchon outfall.
7. In experimental view points the maximum sag point in the Streeter-Phelp¢¥s O©ü curve will take place far in the downstream of Han River after the Tanchon tributary stream joins with it near Duk-Do, since the stream is too expect that point.
